| How do I start the request for GAP settlement?
See "Initiate a GAP Claim" at the top of this page. |
| Should I wait until my insurance pays the lender/lessor before filing a request for GAP coverage?
No. A request for coverage should be initiated immediately. In fact, we recommend that you contact our office before accepting the settlement offer from your primary insurance carrier, so that we can offer our assistance when evaluating the evaluation of total loss. |
| Should I wait to assemble all my documentation before filing a claim?
No. A request for benefits should be initiated immediately. |
| Do I have to keep making the scheduled loan/lease payments?
Yes. You may wish to contact your lender / lessor. |
| Who is responsible for getting documents to you?
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide all documentation. Documentation can be sent directly from the different entities involved in the total loss process, such as the finance and insurance companies via fax or mail but ultimately, it is your responsibility to make sure all documentation is provided. |
| How long after all documents are received will settlement be reached?
Requests for GAP settlements with all documentation are processed in the order received. This process normally takes about 3 – 4 weeks. |
| Why is a police report needed?
The GAP Contract that you purchased is a total loss product and the police report verifies a total loss incident occurred. |
| Why do you need an incident report if a police report is unavailable?
Incident reports provide the vehicle identification number, date of loss and details of the loss for recording purposes. |
| Why do you need an insurance settlement worksheet and valuation?
The insurance worksheet identifies the actual cash value your insurance company placed on the vehicle, plus taxes, fees and any deductible. The valuation identifies the vehicle type, options and comparable vehicles used by the primary to calculate an actual cash value. In most instances all of these items appear on the same document. |
| Can you send a letter to my new lender/dealer to let them know a request for GAP coverage has been made and is in process?
Yes. We have a claim in process letter that we would be happy to provide the lender/dealer. |
| Once my request for GAP settlement is filed, will it be assigned to someone I can contact? All associates in the GAP Claim Department are trained to assist you throughout the settlement process. |
| Why do I have to submit so many documents?
GAP settlements are produced by calculating an outstanding loan/lease balance at the time of loss and calculating an actual cash value of the covered vehicle. As the Administrator for the GAP Contract, we are required to adjudicate the total loss per the language in your Contract. |
| What are your hours?
Our operating hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm Pacific Time. Faxes can be sent to 619-228-0129 at anytime. |
| Why does it take several hours for my fax to show up on your system?
We receive a tremendous volume of faxes that are downloaded from a computer system in the order they are received. |
| If I pay off the loan now can the GAP settlement be sent directly to me?
In order for the GAP settlement to be issued to you directly, a letter of authorization from your lender, identifying that the loan has been paid in full and advising that any further funds are to be issued to you must be provided. |
| Will the interest charges that accumulate from the date of loss until the GAP settlement is finalized be covered?
The GAP settlement is calculated as of the date of loss. Any charges that accumulate after the date of loss are not covered by the Contract. |
| How does the primary insurance deductible work?
The Contract covers deductibles up to $1,000 (or as limited by state provisions). |
| A tax credit was added to the settlement amount. Who is responsible for the remaining balance?
Most Contracts do not cover amounts for which the customer will be reimbursed through any other party. Often, a tax benefit is included in the primary insurance settlement. |
| Will you express or overnight mail the GAP settlement to the lender/lessor?
All GAP settlements are issued to the respective lenders via U S mail. |
